Who we are

Help in Poland (helpinpoland.com) is a free community directory that helps expats living in Poland find English-speaking service providers. The site is run independently and is free for everyone to use.

For any privacy-related questions, contact us at: hello@helpinpoland.com

What information we collect

When you create an account:

  • Your email address
  • Your name (if you choose to provide it)
  • A randomly generated public username
  • Your Google account details (if you sign up with Google)

When you list a service:

  • Business or personal name
  • City and category
  • Contact details you choose to share (phone, email, social links)
  • A description and optional photo

When you leave a review:

  • Your rating and written comment
  • Your public username (shown next to the review)

What we do NOT do

  • We do not sell your data to anyone
  • We do not show ads on the site itself
  • We do not share your information with third parties, except the services below that power the site

Third-party services we use

  • Supabase: stores your account data, provider listings and uploaded photos securely (servers in Ireland, EU)
  • Vercel: hosts the website
  • Resend: sends you transactional emails (account confirmation, listing approval or rejection)
  • Google OAuth: used only if you choose to sign in with Google
  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel: a small marketing cookie used only to measure performance of paid ads on Facebook and Instagram. It only loads if you accept marketing cookies (see Cookies below). It does not load otherwise.
  • Google Analytics 4: helps us understand how many people visit, which pages are most useful, and which cities or services they look for. IP addresses are anonymised. It only loads if you accept marketing cookies. It does not load otherwise.

Advertising

We may run paid ads on Facebook and Instagram to invite people to use the directory. If you arrive from one of those ads and you have accepted marketing cookies, the Meta Pixel helps us see that the ad worked. We never see your name or contact details from the Pixel; we only see anonymous aggregate counts. If you reject marketing cookies, no tracking happens.

Your real name is private

Your real name is never shown publicly on the site. Only your randomly generated username appears on reviews and listings. You can update your username any time in your account settings.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are based in the EU, you have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Object to how we use your data

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@helpinpoland.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Cookies

Essential cookies (always on):

  • Your login session so you stay signed in
  • Your theme choice (light or dark mode)

Marketing cookies (off by default):

  • The Meta (Facebook) Pixel loads only after you click Accept on the cookie banner. It helps us measure which Facebook or Instagram ads brought people to the site.
  • Google Analytics 4 also loads only after you click Accept. It helps us understand which pages and services visitors are looking for, with anonymised IP addresses.
  • You can change your choice anytime via the Cookie settings link in the footer. Revoking marketing cookies fully unloads both trackers.
  • If you click Reject, neither tracker ever loads.

Data retention

Your account data is kept as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal details. Provider listings you created and reviews you wrote may remain in anonymised form unless you specifically ask us to remove them.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top. We may also notify you by email if the changes affect your rights in a meaningful way.
